Key responsibilities

• Lead ecological surveys, impact assessments and offset investigations.
• Lead the delivery of high-quality technical reports and provide technical review of team deliverables.
• Act as Project Manager, from planning through to completion, ensuring budgets and timelines are met.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior ecologists.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure clear communication and high levels of client satisfaction.
• Lead the development of bid win strategies and project proposals.
• Lead the development of project delivery plans and work with internal project delivery teams to meet project goals.
• Commitment to safe work practices.

Qualifications and experience

• Degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in ecological consulting.
• Strong knowledge of NSW environmental regulations and ecological assessment methodologies.
• BAM Accredited, a desire to obtain accreditation, or a comprehensive understanding of the BAM.
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, client engagement, and team leadership.
• Proficiency with relevant software (e.g., GIS tools) and data analysis.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Heritage Consultant for our Queensland Heritage business, with experience particularly in Aboriginal cultural heritage. Experience in historical heritage management will also be considered favourably.

In this role, you will be responsible for technical project delivery including undertaking due diligence assessments, cultural heritage surveys and reporting. This position is a maternity leave back-fill role for a consultant ideally located in southeast Queensland and willing to travel to service our projects across Queensland.

You will provide technical interpretation and advice in response to client needs, contribute to project managements, and lead field work. Working closely with the Manager and senior team members, you will help ensure Project Delivery Excellence.

• Prepare high-quality due diligence assessment and impact assessment reports and management plans.
• Conduct Aboriginal and historical heritage assessments.
• Produce accurate and complex technical deliverables, analysis and reports.
• Contribute to project management ensuring that timelines and budgets are met.

Qualifications and experience

• Honours or equivalent degree in archaeology or heritage management.
• Experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Queensland.
• Strong understanding of Queensland heritage legislation.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in heritage consulting.
• Demonstrated experience conducting fieldwork independently with Traditional Owner representatives and willingness to travel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

This is a senior role combining technical leadership, team development, and client engagement. The Niche Natural Capital team focuses on the creation of new nature-based assets through compliance methodologies such as state and federal offset schemes and voluntary nature-based methodologies. This team is focusing on biodiversity as its core natural capital driver and ultimately will cover other natural capital methods such as carbon and water.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting clients to meet their compulsory obligations under the NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme (BOS) with a focus on major projects.
• Overseeing the development of Stewardship sites in collaboration with the ecology team.
• Assisting in the design of spatial and data tools to maximise the efficiency of biodiversity programs.
• Work with the Natural Capital supply team to identify opportunities for demand-side clients in relation to biodiversity credits under the BOS.
• Landholder and community consultation to improve their knowledge of offsetting schemes to assist in their informed decision making.
• Understanding and applying nature-positive frameworks, markets and accounting models.

Applicants without working knowledge of the NSW BOS but with a solid working knowledge of Natural Capital schemes including nature positive schemes and frameworks are encouraged to apply as several positions may be made available including a position targeting this skillset.
