Bugeja Recycling –
Resource Recovery and Transfer Facility

Client: Bugeja Recycling
Industry sector: Resource Recovery
Service: Environmental Management and Approvals
Location: Cairns, North QLD

About this Project

Bugeja Earthmoving (sister company of Bugeja Recycling) currently operates a small mobile recycling facility in Cairns that specialises in the crushing, shredding and screening of local construction and demolition (C&D) waste (through the use of a Hammbreaker crusher/shredder [pictured] and transportable screening plant) for environmentally appropriate reuse throughout the Cairns region.

To support an increase in demand (both locally and throughout Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait Island region), Bugeja Recycling was created to take on the current recycling operations of Bugeja Earthmoving, to expand current capabilities through the development of a new Resource Recycling Facility (RRF) and to increase its mobile recycling facility fleet (the Project).

“Resource recovery is the way of the future and Niche is extremely proud to be part of this Project. Well done to Peter Bugeja for leading the way in resource recovery within the Cairns region.”

Anne-marie Ten Hoorn, Associate – Environmental Consultant, Cairns

Our role in the project

Niche was engaged by Bugeja Recycling to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment of the Project and to successfully secure the Environmental Authority to enable the required Environmental Relevant Activities (ERAs) to be undertaken. Further, Niche provided assistance in preparing the Development Application for Material Change of Use which is currently in the process of being assessed by the Cairns Regional Council.

“Anne-marie Ten Hoorn is extremely efficient, helpful and exercises great time management. Her assistance in getting us across the line was above and beyond. Thanks again for all your hard work.”
