News & Insights

This NAIDOC Week, Niche is proud to share the progress we’ve made this year on our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), reaffirming our commitment to respectful relationships and meaningful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Our RAP, formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia in July 2024, reflects our dedication to creating a workplace and culture that values the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Peoples. In the year since publishing our RAP, we’ve taken important steps to embed reconciliation into our everyday practices.

Justin Shiner, Heritage Manager and RAP Working Group Chair commented:

“Publishing our RAP was an important first step but now we are focused on delivering meaningful activities towards reconciliation through engaging and educating our people and supporting First Nations businesses, as well as continuing to deliver our significant cultural heritage work.”

One of our key achievements has been several staff engagement activities, ensuring that reconciliation is not just a policy, but a shared responsibility across our organisation. Activities included a RAP induction session for existing and new staff, regular updates in Town Hall meetings, and educational events hosted in our offices during National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week.

We will also be delivering cultural awareness training to 100+ staff in-person gathering in July.

We have developed a procurement strategy, guidelines, and a database of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services relevant to our business. This supports our goal of fostering economic participation and strengthening partnerships with First Nations suppliers. We have already supported businesses by purchasing lanyards for our offices and catering for staff events.

In line with best practice equity and inclusion, we completed a comprehensive review of our internal policies. We also joined the Diversity Council of Australia, further aligning ourselves with national standards for inclusive and equitable workplaces.

We will continue to build on these foundations with further activities, focusing on truth telling and knowledge sharing with the communities we engage through the delivery of our work, operating our business, and in the places where our teams work and live.

As we continue our reconciliation journey, we remain committed to listening, learning, and acting. We thank our staff, partners, and communities for walking with us.
