Australia’s clean energy transition has taken a significant step forward with the commencement of major construction works on the HumeLink transmission project, one of the country’s most transformative energy infrastructure undertakings.

Niche is a key contributor of ecology expertise to the HumeLink project, leading the delivery of the Biodiversity Development Assessment Report (BDAR) and Biodiversity Offset Delivery Strategy, as well as providing ongoing support for delivering on conditions of approval.

Transgrid confirmed that construction is now underway on the project, which will enable the integration of more renewable energy into the National Electricity Market (NEM), including unlocking the full capacity of Snowy 2.0 pumped hydro project. The project will also support regional NSW with jobs and investment.

Chani Wheeler, Ecology Technical and Commercial Lead says the Niche team are proud to see HumeLink construction underway.

“This is the culmination of years of hard work from our dedicated team of ecologists to support Transgrid with assessing and managing the biodiversity impacts of this nation-critical project.”

“It will be exciting to see this project come to life over the coming years, supporting Australia’s progress towards the recently confirmed 2035 emissions reduction target and beyond,” said Ms Wheeler.

Niche acknowledges the dedication and leadership of our team who have worked tirelessly on this project, including Chani Wheeler, Simon Tweed, Sian Griffiths, Thea Kane and Jessica O’Leary, supported by over 50 Niche ecology staff, casuals and subcontractors.
