Emission units that are financial products which are regulated in Australia include Australian carbon credit units, safeguard mechanism credit units and other types of eligible international emission units. Biodiversity certificates issued under the Nature Repair Act 2023 and ecosystem and species credits under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme are not generally considered financial products and therefore these types of emissions and environmental units do not require the provider of advice to hold or be authorised under an Australian financial services licence.
