Manager – Heritage: QLD

An opportunity awaits for an established leader with experience in Heritage consulting services who will play a lead role in steering and growing our Queensland Heritage team. A key position in our management team, the Heritage Manager will be responsible for implementing strategies that are designed to achieve not only the goals of our QLD team but align them with Niche’s strategic direction. Equally important, this role is key in managing and nurturing our QLD heritage team by fostering a culture of collaboration and learning where team members can ‘master their craft’. 

Our management team is currently led by our Head of Operations, Luke Baker who has over 15 years of experience in fields of natural area restoration, weed management and ecological consulting. Working with Niche will provide you with exposure to guiding your team through complex cultural heritage projects working closely with our key clients and Aboriginal representatives and communities. Our Heritage team has collected and preserved several thousands of artefacts from the Cross River Rail Project and more recently, our Heritage projects have taken us into linear infrastructure projects and into renewable energy sector including providing EIS’ on pumped hydro, battery storage and wind farm projects.

This position is ideal for an individual who is recognised as a thought leader and technical expert in the Australian Heritage space and who is ready to work with a company that is focused celebrating future growth.

About you:

Experience and qualifications the ideal candidate will bring to this role:

  • A degree and/or a postgraduate qualification with a focus on Australian archaeology, anthropology or cultural heritage management.
  • Experience working under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003.
  • Working knowledge with Commonwealth heritage laws, other QLD laws including the Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, and local heritage planning requirements. 
  • Strong people management and emotional intelligence skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate, engage others, influence culture, and provide strong direction.
  • Empowers team members to contribute and extend their knowledge, celebrating each team members’ achievement as they occur.
  • Motivates team members and creates a culture of learning where team members can come and ‘master their craft’.
  • Ability to coach and lead team members through complex projects from beginning to end.
  • Well-developed ability and willingness to interpret and explain complex technical issues to all levels of staff and to clients.
  • Excellent and proven experience in communicating with a range of stakeholders including Aboriginal community representatives
