We’re hiring! Principal Ecologist QLD (Location Flexible)
The opportunity
We are seeking a full-time Associate to Principal level terrestrial ecologist to join and help grow our QLD ecological team’s capacity and skills. With our flexible working model, you can work from either of our Brisbane or Cairns physical offices, work from home, attend client offices, and undertake fieldwork.
We have a variety of projects available in various industries including resources, construction, renewables, and development projects for government and commercial clients.
The key attributes of this role include leading and project managing to make sure our team delivers quality work on time and within budget, mentoring and growing the QLD Ecology team, developing client relationships and working with others to bring in new business for the company.
This role is suited to experienced ecologists with the skills, experience, and ambition to lead other technical specialists, helping us grow our business.
About you

We are seeking someone ideally with ten or more years of technical experience, with a strong background in flora and/or fauna identification in the QLD environment. Experience includes undertaking and leading field-based surveys, preparing impact assessments, and monitoring and/or ecological monitoring reports in a consulting environment. The ability and willingness to travel to remote work locations, as required, would also be highly regarded.
A detailed and working knowledge of local, State and Commonwealth legislation relating to the environment in QLD is a critical part of the role. You will have experience and/or demonstrable understanding of the Environmental Protection Act 1994, Vegetation Management Act 1999, Nature Conservation Act 1992, and the Commonwealth’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and relevant statutory guidelines.
You will work independently, within a team of technical ecological professionals, and even as the leader of large interdisciplinary teams to deliver projects. Good interpersonal skills, a desire to achieve excellent customer service goals, and strong communication abilities to work productively with technical and non-technical people are desirable.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications, a degree/undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification, in ecology, biology, environmental science, environmental management or another relevant qualification in a directly related field.
