Displayed at Niche’s FNQ office in Cairns is the work of Aboriginal artist Bumi (Uncle Peter Hyde), Gimuy Walubara Yidinji People.
The shield shows the ancestral area between Gordonvale and White Rock, Cairns. The pattern includes inspiration from the pattern of rainforest leaves and the freshwater fish bone. The raised section in the middle-painted black is home in the rainforest. It is made on white ash wood making it light weight and is painted up with black, white and yellow representing charcoal/fire, ochre from the creeks and mountains.
At Niche we are privileged to work with First Nations communities on a range of diverse projects. By displaying the shield in our office, we hope to celebrate one of the world’s longest continuing cultures, as well as guide, inform and enrich the cultural understanding of all employees and clients who pass through our office.
