The Anthropocene is a unit of geological time used to describe the period in which humans have had a demonstrable and measurable effect on the planet, its climate, and ecosystems. Niche is excited to announce our partnership with the University of Queensland in developing a world-leading research centre for the study of the Anthropocene.
“It is an exciting project, and we look forward to continuing to be involved as it evolves.”
Dr Xavier Carah
“The proposed UQ Centre for the Anthropocene will explore four main themes: managing fire regimes, living with rising sea levels, food and water security, and loss and conservation of cultural heritage landscapes,” explains senior heritage consultant Dr Xavier Carah.
“As members of the UQ cultural heritage industry advisory panel, and partners in the Centre for the Anthropocene, we’ll provide advice, case studies and test sites for UQ researchers to explore the Centre’s main themes.”
