Lauren joined Niche’s consulting team in March 2021. Originally from Cairns, Lauren has five years of experience working as an ecologist and fauna spotter-catcher, including time spent in remote areas of Queensland’s Far North.
While based on the Cape York Peninsula, Lauren’s fieldwork included investigations and monitoring of the region’s threatened Northern Quoll and Palm Cockatoo.
“Operating in remote locations is always interesting! I’ve had some great experiences such as volunteering on a research project on bird diversity in the Amazon, and working on Cape York; exploring and surveying one of the most remote parts of Australia,” says Lauren.
Lauren has always enjoyed being outdoors and her appreciation of our environment drew her to a career in ecology.
“I want to be involved in effecting positive change, and seeing real environmental outcomes.”
Lauren applied to join the team at Niche because she felt a connection to the company’s values and strong safety culture. Now based at the Queensland head office in Brisbane, Lauren splits her time between regular fieldwork and her desk.

“Since joining Niche, my team leader Rebecca has been very supportive, and my colleagues have been really welcoming. We’re a very inclusive and connected team, despite being geographically spread out,” says Lauren.
“A career in ecology offers so much variety, and at Niche there is room for me to learn and grow professionally. I have opportunities to get involved in a diverse range of projects and tasks, and to develop my skills. I’ve already completed a regional ecosystems training course, and been encouraged to join EIANZ.”
