Biodiversity offsets aim to sustainably address the environmental impacts of development and are an unavoidable component of project approvals in most states in Australia. But offsets can be extremely expensive and so may influence a project’s financial viability. At Niche, we provide strategic advice to ensure our clients’ offset requirements are met efficiently, and to turn offset liabilities into positive, income-generating, commercial outcomes.
BioBanking and Stewardship sites in NSW
We help our clients to find, secure and manage their offsets. Niche is proud to have established offset sites all over NSW – including both BioBanking and Stewardship Sites – for clients in the mining, land development and construction sectors, as well as for private landholders. We’ve also completed numerous biodiversity certification projects, offsetting assessments and land use strategies.
$18m in biodiversity offset sales brokered for our offset site owners
Matching the offsetting needs of our development clients with the offsetting resources of our landowner clients provides exceptional commercial and environmental outcomes.
We have brokered offset sales in excess of $18m between landowners (who retain and manage the biodiversity values on their land for conservation) and developers (who purchase offset credits to meet their offsetting requirement and achieve project approval). Our senior staff understand the science of offsetting and the market for biodiversity offsets and apply that understanding across our extensive network to bring together buyers and sellers to facilitate a mutually beneficial sale.
A specialist team of accredited assessors
Niche’s 50-strong team includes specialist ecologists who are highly experienced in developing successful offsetting strategies and are accredited by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage in applying the Biodiversity Assessment Methodology (BAM), in compliance with the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016.
