In Queensland, Niche has been working with MWH and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to undertake cultural heritage assessments as part of flood recovery work throughout the Central Queensland Highlands area following the devastation of the 2010/2011 floods and cyclone Yasi.
Recently inspections were undertaken along the Capricorn Highway identifying the need to include the services of Indigenous Cultural Heritage Officers during the construction phase of rehabilitation works to a local bridge.
A culturally scared tree was also identified in proximity to the bridge works. The project has been a successful collaboration of Niche, the local traditional owners, MWH and TMR.
